Why Creative Commons Attribution 4.0?

JORCAPS has adopted the CC BY 4.0 licence because it:

1. Maximises Dissemination

  • Enables broad re-use, sharing, and building upon published research
  • Increases research visibility and technical impact across the computing community
  • Facilitates integration into open-access repositories, preprint servers, and digital libraries
  • Supports international research collaboration and knowledge transfer

2. Preferred by Funding Bodies

  • Many major research funders require or strongly prefer CC BY 4.0 licensing for funded outputs
  • Aligns with open science, open data, and open software initiatives
  • Satisfies compliance requirements for publicly funded and internationally supported research

3. Promotes Technical Progress

  • Permits derivative works, adaptations, and extensions of published algorithms and systems
  • Enables commercial applications and industrial transfer of research findings
  • Facilitates text mining, data analysis, and meta-research across large publication corpora
  • Supports interdisciplinary integration of computing research into other fields

4. Maintains Author Attribution

  • Ensures authors receive appropriate credit for their technical contributions
  • Protects authors' academic and professional reputation
  • Enables tracking of article citations, downloads, and scholarly impact
  • Preserves authorship acknowledgement in all derivative and adapted works
