Publication Ethics
To uphold the integrity of scientific and technical knowledge and to maintain public confidence in computing research, JORCAPS has established comprehensive publication ethics guidelines. All authors submitting manuscripts are required to comply with these standards.
Falsification and Fabrication of Data
Data Fabrication occurs when a researcher manufactures results, datasets, or experimental outputs without conducting actual research. Data Falsification involves the manipulation or selective alteration of research data, results, or images after collection. Both constitute grave research misconduct.
Consequences: Manuscripts found to contain fabricated or falsified data — including manipulated figures, graphs, or benchmark results — will be immediately rejected. Published articles in which such misconduct is subsequently identified will be retracted. Authors may face sanctions including permanent exclusion from future submissions and disqualification from serving as reviewers or editors.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism involves presenting the ideas, text, code, algorithms, or data of others without proper attribution. This includes reproducing even a brief passage from any published or unpublished source — including code repositories — without appropriate citation. Plagiarism is a form of academic dishonesty that violates intellectual property rights.
Consequences: Manuscripts containing plagiarised content will be rejected. Articles found to contain plagiarism after publication will be retracted or corrected as appropriate.
Multiple Simultaneous Submissions
Submitting an identical or substantially similar manuscript to more than one journal at the same time is unacceptable and constitutes a serious breach of publication ethics. This practice wastes the time of editors and reviewers and damages the credibility of the authors and journals involved.
Consequences: Authors found to have submitted a manuscript to multiple journals concurrently will face severe sanctions, including rejection and a prohibition from submitting to JORCAPS for two years.
Redundant Publication
Producing multiple papers from the same dataset, experiment, or system without making a new and substantive technical contribution is considered redundant publication. Authors are expected to consolidate related findings into comprehensive, complete research papers rather than fragmenting contributions across several publications.
Consequences: Redundant publications will be rejected and may result in sanctions against the author(s) concerned.
Incorrect Authorship or Author Attribution
Every listed author must have made a genuine and demonstrable contribution to the research — including conceptualisation, design, implementation, or analysis — and must have approved the manuscript for submission. All contributors who participated meaningfully must be included. Adding individuals who did not contribute substantively ("gift authorship") is unethical and prohibited.
Consequences: Misrepresentation of authorship may lead to rejection of the manuscript, notification of the authors' institution, and potential sanctions including a ban from future submissions.
Citation Manipulation
Authors must not engage in practices designed to artificially inflate citation counts — whether of their own publications or those of particular journals. Editors and reviewers must not request that authors insert references to boost citation metrics for themselves, colleagues, or affiliated journals.
Consequences: Confirmed citation manipulation will result in manuscript rejection and potential sanctions against those responsible.
Editor and Reviewer Responsibilities
Editors and reviewers who have a current or recent collaborative, supervisory, or personal relationship with any of the authors of a manuscript under review must recuse themselves from involvement with that submission. Any prior discussion of the manuscript with the authors must be disclosed to the Editorial Board.
SANCTIONS FOR ETHICS VIOLATIONS
JORCAPS may impose the following penalties for confirmed breaches of its publication ethics guidelines:
- Rejection of the manuscript and any concurrently submitted manuscripts by the same author(s)
- Submission Ban: Authors will be prohibited from submitting to JORCAPS for 2 years following a confirmed violation
- Editorial Restrictions: Prohibition from serving as an editor or reviewer for the journal
- Additional Sanctions: For serious violations, JORCAPS reserves the right to impose further penalties as deemed appropriate
In cases of severe misconduct, JORCAPS may make a public statement and notify the author's institution.
Investigation Procedure
Suspected breaches of JORCAPS's publication ethics policies — whether identified before or after publication — must be reported promptly to: JORCAPS Editorial Office
All investigations will be conducted in accordance with established protocols designed to ensure fairness and confidentiality for all parties involved.
Corrections and Retractions
When errors are discovered in published articles, JORCAPS will:
- Assess the Error: The Editorial Board will examine the matter and consult with relevant editors and the author's institution to determine the nature and severity of the error.
- Minor Corrections: Authors may submit corrections for minor errors, which will be published as an Erratum linked to the original article.
- Significant Errors: For substantial errors that do not affect the validity of the core findings, JORCAPS will publish a formal correction clarifying the issue.
- Misconduct-Related Retractions: Where misconduct is established, JORCAPS will retract the article in line with the COPE Retraction Guidelines and other applicable international standards.
Retraction Notice: Published retraction notices will remain linked to the original article and will be clearly flagged as retracted across all relevant databases.
Author Acknowledgement
All authors submitting manuscripts to JORCAPS confirm that they have read and understood these publication ethics guidelines. By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to abide by all the policies set out herein and accept full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, originality, and ethical soundness of their work.
Commitment to Integrity
JORCAPS is steadfastly committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics in order to protect the integrity of computing research, sustain public and professional trust in scientific findings, and ensure proper attribution of technical and intellectual contributions. Ethical publishing practices are fundamental to the advancement of computing science and the credibility of the research community.
